Common Questions

Do I need solar experience to open a Gus’s Solar franchise?

No. You need to know how to run a local business honestly, not how to torque a rail. We teach you the solar side from the ground up. What we can’t teach is showing up on time, answering your phone, and caring whether a customer’s system is still producing in year seven. If you’ve got that, the technical training is our problem to solve.

How much does it cost to open a Gus’s Solar franchise?

Total investment typically lands between $150,000 and $350,000 depending on your market size, real estate costs, and initial equipment inventory. That includes franchise fee, training, tools, a stocked truck or two, and working capital to get you through the first few months. We’ll break the whole thing down line by line before you sign anything. No surprises later.

Is financing available for the franchise investment?

We can point you toward lenders who work with franchisees and understand the solar trade. Many folks use a combination of SBA-backed loans, home equity, or retirement rollovers. What we won’t do is push you into a payment structure that strangles you in month three. Gus would rather you open slower and sleep better.

Will I get an exclusive territory?

Yes. You get a defined territory drawn around population, not a vague promise. The size depends on your market, but we don’t stack two Gus’s Solar trucks on the same block fighting over the same mailboxes. Your name goes on the building in your town. The guy in the next county has his own.

How long does training take?

Plan on three to four weeks before you open, split between classroom work and ride-along installs with Gus’s crew. You’ll learn the quoting process, equipment selection across brands like Tesla, Enphase, and Qcells, and how to flash a roof penetration correctly. Then you get ongoing support after launch. The training doesn’t stop when the door opens.

What ongoing fees and royalties should I expect?

Franchise systems run on a royalty and a modest marketing contribution, and we’re upfront about the ranges in our disclosure documents. We’re not interested in nickel-and-diming you with hidden fees. The model works when you succeed and stay for twenty years, not when we squeeze every dollar out in year one.

How long does it take to open once I sign?

Most franchisees are running jobs within 90 to 120 days. That includes training, securing your location, building out your inventory, and getting licensed and insured in your state. Some take longer if they’re keeping a day job through the transition. We’d rather you open right than open fast.

What support do I get after I open?

You get direct access to people who know this trade, including Gus himself when needed. That means help with quoting, technical troubleshooting, equipment ordering, and the monitoring platform. We don’t hand you a manual and disappear. The 90-Day Done Right Promise applies to your customers, and the same standard applies to how we back you.

Who is the ideal Gus’s Solar franchisee?

Someone who already lives in the town they want to serve, or nearby. Someone who will answer their own phone and doesn’t need a script to talk to a neighbor about their electric bill. Maybe you’ve run a roofing crew, a hardware store, or a plumbing business. You’re done working for somebody else and you want your name on something that lasts.

What is the next step if I’m interested?

There’s no pressure, no overnight decision, no “sign tonight or the deal disappears.” Gus’s whole philosophy is take two weeks, think about it, the price will be the same. We’ll send you the details, answer your questions, and let you decide like an adult.

Still Have Questions?
